Disaster Risk Management and Sustainability is gaining more considerable attention in the context of climatic, geophysical and economic variabilities at various spatial scales. Societies around the world are seeking engineering, social and management solutions for extreme events such as floods, landslides, earthquakes and cyclones. The team on Disaster Management domain is making efforts in various facets such as understanding hazards, prediction, mitigation and disaster recovery since 2018. The team members are given opportunities for interacting with experts who are working on innovations in disaster management, disaster-affected area visits and community interaction. Such exposures would provide students with insights in developing solutions which communities seek for complex problems through the interdisciplinary approach
Currently, the E-Sail students are contributing to various components under a research project implemented at the School of Engineering & Technology in the aftermath of floods and landslides deluge, August 2018 in the Western Ghats region. The project focusses specifically in the Kodagu district of Karnataka State in association with government administration, Non-Governmental Organizations and disaster-affected communities. The team is looking forward to developing mobile and web applications for loss assessment and monitoring of soil bioengineering applications for land restoration.
