Department Insight

Department is growing leaps and bounds in terms of infrastructure, academic and research facilities. The faculty team is a perfect blend of people with industry and research experience. This largely benefits students, on one hand, to involve in faculty research projects and get recognized by publishing research articles at the National and International level and get an opportunity to connect to industries for training, internship, and projects on the other hand. State-of-the-art training facilities is developed in collaboration with reputed industries. The latest versions of Industry demand software programmes like Ansys, Catia, Creo, Solid Works, Matlab, and STAR-CCM+ are available with the department and are taught either as a part of the curriculum or as value-added courses. Special training is imparted in the core areas like Tear Down of vehicles, Industry 4.0, Robotics, 3-D printing, CNC and also in the inter-disciplinary areas like Data Analytics, IoT and E-mobility. Under Industry oriented curriculum, an opportunity is created for eligible students to engage with industries for their projects during their final year. Students are also encouraged to take part in co-curricular and extracurricular activities organized at different levels for their overall development.

Mechanical Engineering department was incepted in the year 2010 and Automobile Engineering started in the year 2014 (in collaboration with ARAI-Pune).

From HoD's Desk

Welcome to the Department Mechanical and Automobile Engineering. Recalling a famous quote, “Every river is a tiny droplet in the beginning and every long journey starts with small strides”, the department was started in the year 2010, is completing one decade of journey by now. During this 10 years, the department has witnessed a steadfast growth strongly dwelling on the motto; excellence and service. We strongly believe that our success is the success of our stakeholders, primarily our students. We continuously strive to build strong relations with our stakeholders while designing our academic activities. Department has excellent infrastructural facilities in regard to class rooms, laboratories, research, and other amenities. The faculty team comprise people having rich experience in teaching, industry and research. Curriculum is regularly revised to cater the ever-changing needs and demands of industries, imparting training on required skill sets. Without compromising on fundamental domain knowledge, curriculum is designed to incorporate courses of different branches of engineering, as electives, to prepare students to be competent in interdisciplinary areas. Courses are also offered in the non engineering fields like performing arts, catering, media studies, product innovation, foreign languages etc., in the form of global electives. We are proud to have many training centers established collaborating with renowned industries and institutions like BENZ, BOSCH, FESTO, MAHINDRA and ARAI to name few. Students are given opportunities to get training in such centers and also opportunities to involve in research projects carried by faculty. Holistic Education is a unique course through which students are trained on the personal, interpersonal and societal skills to instill confidence in them to become global citizens. We perceive and counsel our students to explore themselves to accept modern world challenges. Overall development of students to be successful in their chosen career is our vision. Connect to us for more information and better understanding.

State of Art

Department of Mechanical and Automobile Engineering has procured
state of art equipment / types of equipment and have a class leading laboratory for hands-on learning.

ADVANCED MACHINING LAB

The laboratory is equipped with advanced automated machines and robots to cater the needs of industrial solutions and defines the problem encountered in motion planning and machining conditions. The current research activities include parametric optimization of high speed machining of Inconel steel using CNC milling machine and CNC turning machine, analysis and optimization of the end effector/gripper movement using KUKA robot, parametric optimization of hard machining of Inconel 718 using coated tools. This laboratory is also equipped with KUKA KR6 R900 robot, a well advanced robot which can be used to grip and manipulate.

BOSCH AUTOMOTIVE WORKSHOP

BOSCH Automotive workshop constitutes of Wheel balancing system, 3D Wheel Alignment machine, Vehicle fork lift, Tyre Inflator, Engine Electrical Circuit management system, Tyre fitting machine, engine diagnoses, injector test and Cabin Air Conditioning maintenance machine.  The state of the art test facility available in the lab is one of its unique kind and helps students to have better understanding of the vehicles electrical, and wheel and tyre system maintenance.

ENERGY CONVERSION LAB

The Energy Conversion Engineering laboratory is equipped with facilities for regular academic purposes, research and consultancy works. This lab consists all types of engine like single cylinder, multi-cylinder SI & CI engines connected with mechanical, electrical and hydraulic dynamometers. Engines with EGR, turbocharge, with VCR, with facility to run on duel fuel are available. The lab has a sophisticated computerized research engine, exhaust gas analyser, smoke meter and fuel testing facilities.

FESTO AUTOMATION TRAINING CENTRE

The centre is aimed to impart automation skill to students to develop skills which are required for many manufacturing and processing industries. Main focus of the centre is on skill development on industrial automation through pneumatics, hydraulics, electro pneumatics, electro hydraulics, programmable logic controllers, Fluid Sim (software) and codesys - IEC 61131-3 programming tools. Students have the opportunity to do their internship on industrial automation in republican institute for vocational education, Minsk, Belarus. after successfully completing the courses offered from the centre on industrial automation. The internship is about industry revolution 4.0 which is the current trend of automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies.

CU-MBRDI DAIMLER TRUCK TEAR DOWN FACILITY

This facility is for the tear down of Daimler trucks starting with a Light Duty Truck (LDT) followed by Medium Duty and Heavy duty Trucks. The training involves dismantling truck parts in sequence starting from cabin & steering system, engine periphery, transmission system, electrical system, suspension and braking system. Each dismantled part of truck will be studied with respect to its design, manufacture, assembly for further improvements and innovations. The training contributes to provide hands-on experience, benchmarking and knowledge sharing in various verticals of vehicle construction and engineering to provide industry ready engineers.
