Course Name : Masters of Technology in Power Systems

M.Tech. Power System programme aims at training graduate engineers in the area of power systems This course deals with the state of the art techniques in Power System analysis, stability evaluation planning, reliability and forecasting. The course also covers subjects on high voltage DC transmission, industrial electronics and controls, power electronics and drives, wind and solar energy electric conversion systems and smart grid technologies.

Programe Educational Objectives

The major objectives of the M.Tech. in Power Systems are to equip the students with adequate knowledge and skills in Power Systems Engineering and to prepare them for the following career options:

  1. Research programmes in Power Systems Engineering
  2. Employment in power research and development organisations and in academic institutions
  3. To work in electric power industries and energy sectors

Programe Outcomes

  1. Ability to apply the enhanced knowledge in advanced technologies for modeling, analyzing and solving contemporary issues in power sector with a global perspective.
  2. Ability to critically analyze and carry out detailed investigation on multifaceted complex Problems in area of Power Systems and envisage advanced research in thrust areas
  3. Ability to identify, analyze and solve real-life engineering problems in the area of Power Systems and provide strategic solutions satisfying the safety, cultural, societal and environmental aspects/ needs.
  4. Ability for continued pursuance of research and to design, develop and propose theoretical and practical methodologies towards research and development support for the Power System infrastructure.
  5. Ability to develop and utilize modern tools for modeling, analyzing and solving various Engineering problems related to Power Systems.
  6. Willingness and ability to work in a team of engineers/ researchers with mutual understandings to take unsophisticated challenges, in the field of Power Systems, lead and motivate the group to inculcate multidisciplinary and collaborative approach.
  7. Willingness and ability to take up administrative challenges including the management of various projects of interdisciplinary nature and carry out the same in an efficient manner giving due consideration to societal, environmental, economical and financial factors.
  8. Ability to express ideas clearly and communicate orally as well as in writing with others in an effective manner, adhering to various national and international standards and practices for the documentation and presentation of the contents.

  1. Understand and analyze the generation, transmission, distribution and protection of modern power systems.
  2. Design, implement and test power electronics circuits and modern drive systems.
  3. Design, develop and analyze control systems in automation using emerging computing frameworks.
  4. Design, develop and implement electronics systems for electrical applications through inter disciplinary projects.

Eligibility Details

Course Name : Masters of Technology in Power Systems

A candidate who has passed in B.Tech / B.E with 55% aggregate marks from any recognised University in India or abroad recognised by UGC / AIU are eligible to apply.

Applicants who are in the final year of their studies in (B.Tech / B.E) should have secured 55% or above aggregate in all the Semesters / Years of Undergraduate Examinations conducted so far.

Students appearing for their final degree examinations in March-May are also eligible to apply
